Handel

I sang in Handel's Messiah this last weekend. I learned some very interesting things about Handel. My image of him, while being high in the first place, just went up to Mother Theresa level. He was a great man who was a good devout christian his whole life. He wrote the entire Messiah in just 24 days. Although he claims it was not his work but rather music and inspiration given to him in a vision. He was merely a tool. He died at peace with the world, and on his tombstone there is a statue of him holding the manuscript to one of the pieces of the Messiah "I know my Redeemer Liveth" . One friend wrote that he healed the sick, clothed the naked, and fed the poor more than any other music. I didn't quite understand what this meant until I applied it to myself. His music and the opportunity to sing it has truly touched my spirit. The "Hallelujah" chorus is simply put, beautiful. I will not be surprised when Christ comes again the "Hallelujah" chorus is being sung.

I believe that, and I may be a little sketchy with the details, but, I believe he wrote through the night and when he finished writing the Hallelujah Chorus, he was found with tears streaming down his cheeks.
Handel and Bach are a testament that the spirit spoke and people listened, even after Christ and His gospel were no longer on the earth.
