Errr!

One thing I don't like about myself is my inability to be contradictory. I am not confrontational in the least although behind your back I have some excellent come backs. I'll take my opinion and throw it in your...back. Jeff has canker sores, has had them since he was a little boy, blah blah blah, yes we've been through this. Well after trial and error his whole life he is still left with... no answers. Well now this has become my problem because Evalie is now getting canker sores, she has had four since she turned 3. I have been doing research on this stuff ever since I met Jeff. Therefore I have almost 5 years worth of knowledge stored about canker sores. I can tell when someone knows and doesn't know what they are talking about. I don't know what I was expecting when I walked into the doctors office today. Answers? Obviously not, no that would be silly. I got a whole bunch of incorrect information. I felt the frustration bubbling inside me. I wanted to say well from my reading I have found that 5% of the population suffers from severe complex canker sores. I believe my husband has this kind. I want a blood sample drawn and I want it to be tested for blood disease, gastrointestinal disease, vitamin deficiency, mineral deficiency, allergy testing. I specifically want to target gluten and dairy. Instead I sat there... nodding my head... smiling... glazed over... thanking her for her time and information. Apparently going through your doctor is not the correct route. I wanted to say, I have probably studied more about this information than you have, but I need your stinking referral before I can take her to the allergist. But I am not done fighting... no my child's tears as she is trying to eat are motivation enough to get some answers and results.

Im sorry! Canker sores are the worst! I couldn't imagine having them all the time. You should just try a gluten/dairy free diet and see if it does anything for them. I don't have any weird allergies or anything, but Scott and I have been doing gluten/dairy free (most of the time) and it really does make your body feel so much better!

That totally stinks!! I'm sure it's not something they spend anytime on in Med school. So you are probably very much ahead of the game. Something that I've come to use as a nurse approaching a Dr. and maybe this could help you not feel contradictory, but still get what you want, is to just give the background of what has made you search the internet for all the information, tell them what you think possibly could be the problem and just ask if you can get her testing for the allergies. Depending on who the Dr. is, they are just glad to not have to come up with what needs to be done, especially when they are clueless but the problem.

Grr...that totally frustrates me too. I had a really good doctor that I had no problem discussing things with. I trust our new doctor but I always feel like he is pre-empting me. And he is going to scold me if I give my opinion on something. But I don't want to bounce around doctors because for one insurance wouldn't ok it and we have a shortage of doctors here anyway! Let me know what you find out.

Canker sores are AWFUL!!! I get them multiple times each month and have finally realized that I get them moreso during that "time of the month"...not sure how that relates to men or kids...

BUT. My dentist prescribed me a medication that helps SO much more...and I use Rembrandt toothpaste for canker sores specifically.

Also, I finally searched out a naturopath for other health reasons and was immediately put on a gluten-free diet and oh my...I cannot tell you how much it has paid off. I haven't had a canker sore since, but even more importantly my health issues have done a complete 180, so I HIGHLY recommend finding a naturopath to supplement your doctor. Both have very different views on issues, and I REALLY appreciate being able to weigh each one's advice...granted I tend to lean toward the naturopath due to the results that I've gotten and have yet to see w/ my doctor.

It's crazy how much we rely on doctors for things. I have had the same problem SO MANY TIMES!!! You want to ask them where they studied. And why they think you're the neighborhood idiot when you actually DO know what you are talking about. It takes for-e-ver to find someone that listens to you and doesn't just brush you off to get through their over-loaded schedule every day!!! Good luck -- WHEN (not if) you find answers, post them, cuz you never know when someone else might have this kind of thing come up. GOOD LUCK!!!
