Potatoes

While we were living in Moses Lake, Jeff would pick up jobs to do to earn some cash. One of those jobs included potato harvest with my B.I.L, Trent. This was a good experience for Jeff because he entered a world he had never been a part of before. Sure the days were longer than a regular job, and he was inside a dark shed for the whole day, but he really did gain a respect for farmers. He met some very neat people out at the farm but once harvest was done Jeff was done. You truly have to love farming to be a farmer. Trent was right out there the next day helping another farmer, then preparing the equipment for winter and getting ready for next season. Evalie and I would go out every day to bring Jeff lunch and sometimes dinner. She loved the potato shed. She was hesitant at first with the dark shed, the big trucks and the loud noises, but quickly all fear left when she realized she could play in mounds of soft luscious dirt. Every day from head to toe she was covered in fine dirt. Every once and awhile her favorite cousin Brennan would be out there and she would just run and play in the potatoes with him. It was an experience that we all shared together and a memory we will remember forever, and tell our children and grand children.

This is Evalie with the huge mound of potatoes behind her.

This is her on the digger where Jeff worked. Trent is behind her.

Evalie looks dressed too nice to be playing in the dirt! -- (sigh) she's getting so big! -- And... you're not in Moses Lake anymore?

oh my GOODNESS this brings back memories!! I grew up about 20 minutes from Moses Lake (about 10 miles outside of Quincy) and my dad was a farmer. We played and played in the potato cellar right next to our house. Soooo much to explore in there! And almost as much fun when they're empty as when they're full! lol Glad Evalie got to experience it!!
