A Cure

For those of you who know my daughter Evalie, you know she has dealt with a skin irritation since pretty much birth. We noticed it about 4 months old. She had itchy rash looking spots on her elbow and knee creases. When Evalie got older her scratching got worse and worse. She would have the bright red rash all over her arms and legs and sometimes her back. Her cousin Evan also deals with this same rash problem. She would scratch so hard she had little cuts everywhere, like she had been attacked by a cat, which has happened now since she continually pokes and prods my sister's cat. Anyway, Evalie has gone through multiple antibiotic treatments for staph infections from bacteria getting in the open wounds. Always afraid each time that it would be MRSA. A serious staph infection that is almost untreatable. She wakes up some morning and her pillow and sheets have blood spots from where she scratched during the night and drew blood. She has gone through multiple bottles of Benedryl to try to stop the itch. She has tried every topical ointment available to such a young child, non brought success. She has been tested for food allergies and we found she is allergic to egg. So we have kept her off egg for almost a year now, but that still didn't take the rash away. She has tried lotion after lotion after lotion. If someone would recommend a lotion I bought it and tried it for weeks. Nothing was bringing relief to this young child. I was constantly having to dress her in long shirts so she wouldn't scratch so much, being mindful of how many baths she had taken and if she had been washed with soap and putting on the lotion before her skin dried, do I lotion her first or put her diaper on first. Watching every little thing she ate to see if that brought a reaction, watching what she touched, where she played, who she was with. Everything had to be monitored because anything could be the culprit. It was hard seeing this beautiful smiling child looking at me and me looking at her with her red, scratched, inflammed arms. But something I have learned about Evalie is she is tough, really tough. She doesn't complain, she doesn't cry. She wakes up every morning so happy to see me even though she had just spent a miserable night of pain and irritation. She has a big wonderful smile that always melts my heart when I see it. She isn't a complainer. She knows putting lotion on is just part of the routine morning and night and anytime between. She is the best, and I am so grateful to have her. So after this long horrible story that has made you all feel so sad for this little girl I have GOOD NEWS! We found something that helps. My mother in law found this lotion made by a local lady who suffers from excema. Its called ProKera and its sold in Spokane. My mother in law got me a tester and I tried it. Within 2 days Evalie's skin looked so much better. A noticeable difference, one I had not seen with any other lotion. So I kept using it. Evalie was scratching less and less. Since the testers were so small I invested in a bigger bottle. It was the best decision I made and no matter how expensive it is, any price is worth the relief that comes with knowing your child feels better. Now Evalie's skin looks soft and healthy. We continue to use the ProKera and will do so for as long as needed.

Soooo glad it is working! She looks better and I'm sure that means she is feeling better! I'm sure if she knew it was you (mom in law too) who found the cure she would say 'tay too'!

What a relief. That poor girl. I can't believe how cheerful she's always been despite being so uncomfortable all the time. She's a trooper.

So glad that you were able to find something! William has had a little bit of ezcema, gratefully no too bad, but I've had a little taste of what it's like! Blessed Relief!

I need to get me some of that stuff. I suffer with eczema on my hands. So bad that I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes scratching and can't sleep! They crack too because of it all!

My niece has eczema really bad too, on her face mostly but also on parts of her body. I'll have to let my sister know about this stuff.

If it stops working. Take her to a dermatoligist to get her on some steroid creams. That what my sister finally had to do!
